In recent weeks, we’ve once again witnessed how much can be accomplished together. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide concrete assistance to several Edu-Care centres and sustainably improve the daily lives of many children and their caregivers.
It doesn’t always have to be large and complex projects. Often, it’s the small worries or unexpected challenges that prompt our principals to contact us.
They know they can rely on us.
If they can’t find a solution themselves, they get in touch with us – and together we find a way to resolve the problem. In this way, we can help ensure that the children can continue to play, learn, and laugh in a safe, loving, and carefree environment.
Bright Future Edu-Care Centre – Sweet dreams for 40 children
Zanele, the principal of the Bright Future Edu-Care centre in the Township of Asanda Village, asked us for support in purchasing new sleeping mattresses for their children. We were happy to comply with this request.
At the beginning of June, 40 waterproof sleeping mattresses, specially made for the school, were delivered. The children and the entire team are incredibly grateful for this invaluable support. A restful midday nap is crucial for the children’s development – and now they have the perfect items for it.
Great Beginning – Water damage successfully repaired
A burst water pipe outside the Great Beginning Edu-Care centre at the Asanda Village township caused significant problems. After the municipality failed to repair the damage despite repeated requests, we acted quickly.
Our handymen were able to replace the damaged pipe and restore the water supply. The school is now fully operational again.
The number of children at the Great Beginning Edu-Care centre has thankfully grown steadily in recent years. As a result, the existing premises became too small, so Naomi rented an additional building some time ago.
One of the two locations is managed by Rachel and the other by Grace. Both have been working diligently alongside Naomi for many years and contribute with great passion to providing the children with a loving place to play and learn. The printers in both schools had been broken for quite some time and could not be replaced due to financial constraints.
Our joy was all the greater when Klaus and Monika Borowski donated a colour printer to us – at just the right time. Colour pages, learning materials, and other templates are regularly printed for the children at the school. A working printer is therefore invaluable for their daily operations.
Dear Monika and Klaus, thank you so much for your generous donation. With your help, you not only make the work of the educators easier, but you also give the children new opportunities to learn and explore creatively every day.
Loflands Day-Care Centre – Light for the school
At the beginning of June, we received a plea for help from June, the principal of Loflands at the Rusthof township. A faulty lamp and a damaged switch knocked out the electricity in parts of the school, and two classrooms were suddenly plunged into darkness.
We installed new LED tubes and replaced the transformer for both classrooms. Now the children can once again play and learn in bright and safe spaces.
Playway Edu-Care Centre – A Win-Win-Win situation
Winter brings financial challenges for many families because there are fewer job opportunities than in summer. Numerous parents are currently unable to pay their children’s school fees, which has also put the Playway Edu-Care centre into financial difficulty.
To bridge this gap, Golden Sunbeams will cover the school fees for ten children for the next three months.
Everyone benefits:
- The children can continue attending school..
- The Edu-Care centre has significant income and can pay the salaries of its employees.
- Parents gain time to look for a new job while their children are well cared for.
This is exactly what we call a true Win-Win-Win situation.
While many of you in Europe are enjoying summer, here at the Cape the days are slowly getting longer and brighter again. We’re currently experiencing an unusually mild, sunny, and warm winter. This will be especially good news for schoolchildren, as they have winter holidays from June 27th to July 20th. Most of our Edu-Care centres will still be open during this time, so the children here will at least get one hot meal a day.
Finally, we’d like to share some particularly good news with you. At the end of last year, we had to halt construction on our Free to Grow Edu-Care centre because the necessary building permit was still pending. Now, after more than half a year of construction standstill, we were finally able to resume construction work. We’re thrilled about this important milestone and will give you a detailed update on our progress in the next newsletter.
