Dear Friends of Golden Sunbeams
In beautiful summer weather, we were able to enjoy Easter egg hunts with the children in some of our Edu-Care Centre centres. In other facilities, we provided chocolate Easter bunnies so that the teachers could join the children in the hunt.
Most schools have already sent their children off for the Easter holidays since March 27, 2026, and will not reopen until after the Easter holidays. Our ECD centres, on the other hand, will mostly remain open and will only close briefly over the holidays from Good Friday to Easter Monday. Therefore, most “Easter Hunts” take place on Thursday, April 2nd.
On March 25th, we kicked off our annual Easter campaign at the Playway Edu-Care Centre in the Helderzicht township. We handed out lovingly packed Easter surprise bags to all 25 children, filled with chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs. The actual celebration, however, took place on March 27th with the parents. Therefore, we first took a group photo with the children before the bags were temporarily collected again.
It is always impressive to see how naturally and confidently the children hand over their Easter surprises – firmly believing that they will return to them two days later.
We had a similar experience at the Lekkerbekkies Edu-Care Centre. There, we handed over 23 Easter bags for the children to Florentia, the principal. But even here, some patience was still required, as the Easter egg hunt was only planned for April 2nd.
On March 27th, we visited the Helderberg Golden Sunbeam Edu-Care centre in the Township of Macassar. The children were divided into two groups, and the older ones already knew exactly what was going on. With great excitement and cheers, they rushed out of their classrooms to search for the Easter bags.
Although our hiding places were often easy to spot, we still included one or two small challenges.
And even though the second group started somewhat hesitantly, in the end every child held a bulging Easter bag in their hands.
On the same day, we visited the EmfundiSweni Pre-school in the township of Nomzamo. Since the children had taken an exam the previous day and passed with flying colours, Nomalizo, the principal, let her charges go home a day early for their Easter break. We only met Nomalizo and her two granddaughters on site. However, they were absolutely delighted with the Easter surprises. Nomalizo promised to inform the parents so they could pick up the Easter bags for their children before Easter.
On Monday, March 30th, we visited the Bright Future Edu-Care Centre in the township of Asanda Village. Do you remember? The back part of the school burned down the day before Christmas Eve. We are all the more delighted and proud that the Edu-Care Centre has already been rebuilt and is now shining in its new splendour. Even more wonderful, however, were the childrens’ beaming faces when we were able to give them our Easter surprises.
Zanele, the principal of Bright Future, had come up with something very special for the children that day. She had organised a jumping castle, which was set up in front of the school.
Since we cannot participate in all Easter egg hunts at the same time, this year we chose the Covenant Kids Edu-Care centre in the Rusthof, where 113 children took part in the Easter egg hunt.
The Covenant Kids Edu-Care Centre, run by Chrizell Strangman, had once again come up with something very special for the children at Easter: Over 110 children searched for the hidden Easter eggs in the lovingly decorated play area.
In addition, there were marshmallows and surprise eggs, and each child received an Easter bunny bag from Golden Sunbeams.
June, the principal of Loflands Day-Care, also received 35 Easter bags from us a few days earlier. She and her children organised another big Easter egg hunt. Since we unfortunately couldn’t participate ourselves, she sent us numerous beautiful photos of the children, which we would like to share with you here.
In total, between March 26th and April 2nd, we were able to distribute several hundred chocolate Easter bunnies and chocolate Easter eggs to seven of our Edu-Care Centres – bringing a radiant smile to the faces of over 300 children.
